National Apprenticeship Week 2025

National Apprenticeship Week 2025 12333

National Apprenticeship Week (10th February – 16th February 2025) aims to celebrate and highlight the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider community. Apprenticeships provide employees with the opportunity to gain practical hands-on skills whilst completing classroom based theoretical learning.

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW2025) is a nationwide event that brings together apprentices, employers and education providers to raise awareness about the benefits of apprenticeship programs and qualifications.

As a responsible employer, we recognise the importance of investing in young people to develop their skills and knowledge through apprenticeships. We continuously offer apprenticeship programs to people throughout the business, ranging from onsite practical roles to more office-based roles.

We work with local training providers to facilitate and support training and college requirements. We ensure that our apprentices receive a broad range of practical and theoretical information to give them the best learning tools to succeed in a future career.

Owen Serginson is currently undertaking an apprenticeship in Fire, Emergency & Security Systems Technician – Level 3 and he provides some further information in the Q&A below:

What made you choose the route of an apprenticeship?

I didn’t want to go to University and wanted to learn on the job whilst getting paid.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

Everyday is different! Some daily tasks include installing new security systems, competing maintenance checks and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed when projects are finished. I always work with one of our qualified Engineers who mentor me throughout my working day.

What skills have you developed since starting your apprenticeship?

Alongside the Fire & Security technical skills, the main skills I have learnt include communication skills (with customers), working with other trades onsite and working with other team members.

What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship so far?

A rewarding part of the job is taking pride in my work and completing works to a high standard.

How do you balance your work responsibilities with your learning & training?

I have allocated days to complete my learning and training modules. I have a scheduled call every Monday with the Training Provider.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

Definitely do it! It allows you to progress further in the industry by learning on the job with hands on experience and gaining practical site knowledge. An apprenticeship gives you the best of both worlds.

What support have you received from ACEDA and college during your apprenticeship?

The Project Manager I work under (Mark Storey) is very accommodating and supportive. He ensures I have enough time to complete the learning side of things. I receive lots of support from other members of the team whenever its required which is a great help.
