Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 12249

This week (13th – 19th May 2024), is mental health awareness week and the theme is “moving more for our mental health”. Moving our bodies is important for our mental health. Yet research by @mentalhealth shows that more than a third of UK adults find it challenging to find the time for movement.

Our bodies and our minds are connected, so looking after ourselves physically also helps us prevent problems with our mental health. Exercise releases “feel good” hormones, that reduce feelings of stress and anger. It also helps us feel better about our bodies. It can improve our sleep too. If it involves other people, like being part of a team, a class or group we see regularly, that can also boost our mental health.

The Mental Health Foundation have provided some further tips to help you get started on moving more to improve your mental health:

Boost your mental health by moving more | Mental Health Foundation

They include:

  • Find moments for movement every day
  • Set small, achievable goals
  • Take a break from sitting
  • Finding the fun in movement
  • Connecting with others
  • Don’t compare yourself to others as movement looks different for everyone

As a business, we recognise the importance of our employee’s mental health & wellbeing. We are committed to providing, maintaining and promoting a healthy and supportive working environment.

Our charity of the year – ANDYSMANCLUB facilitate peer to peer support groups across the UK for any man over the age of 18. They aim to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation. In the theme of ‘movement’, some of our team members are taking on a huge 18km trek in June 2024 to raise much needed funds for ANDYSMANCLUB. Further information is provided below:
