ACEDA are planned to start work on the new £82m Hitachi Rail facility in Newton Aycliffe in October 2014. It is expected that the site will be operational from 2015 and will bring around 730 jobs to the region.

The facility will produce high speed trains, computer trains and metro trains. Plans are underway to build a fleet of up to 300 carriages by 2019 for East Coast Mainline.

ACEDA Group Managing Director, Nick Harker said, “The Hitachi Rail factory development is a flagship project for the region and we are pleased to be a part of it. The investment into the region not only brings trade throughout the construction phase, but a number of sustainable jobs for the future.”

ACEDA have provided a solution which will support the production requirements of the factory. The solution includes equipment cabinets across the site, a resilient fibre optic network and a Category 6 UTP structured cabling system to facilitate the sites active network, communications systems and IP devices.

The contract was awarded to ACEDA by Shepherd Engineering Services (SES Ltd) who worked closely with ACEDA to finalise the preferred solution. ACEDA have worked with SES Ltd for a number of years and welcome the opportunity of working closely with them on this high profile project.
